The Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca attracts millions of tourists each year to its wonderful area, including beautiful beaches and scenic landscape. It is not as built up an area as the Costa del Sol further south and, as such, is a more attractive location for family holidays and to buy and rent Spanish property.
The Costa Blanca stretches from Denia in the north to Torrvieja in the south. The Costa Blanca is not a vast area but its entire region stretches along the eastern part of Spain along the Mediterranean Sea. Just south of Denia lie Javea and Moraira, two beautiful towns that retain much of their original architecture and character. Javea is looked over by the huge mountain of Montgo
which is visible in all parts of the town. Moraira is a wonderful old fishing village and now boasts an exotic harbour where the rich bring their yachts to enjoy the seaside restaurants and boutiques.
As you head further south in the Costa Blanca, there are many attractions, some of them specially for tourists like the entertainment park Terra Mitica at Benidorm or the bays of Altea and Calpe, with its huge rock that stretches into the see (right). The influence of the sea in all parts of the Costa Blanca is very evident with small harbours and ports lying beneath hillsides and tracks from the roads. Its beaches along with its tiny villages give the Costa Blanca its unique attraction.
You can basically travel along the Costa Blanca as the carretera national goes all way alongside the coast, affording wonderful views as you drive and interesting towns and villages to stop and enjoy.
Further south in the Costa Blanca lies the biggest conurbation, the town of Alicante. Alicante is the main place to arrive in the Costa Blanca for tourists with its modern airport that has been recently refurbished. Alicante also has a splendid nightlife as well as many places to stay and to eat.
Another destination for tourists in the Costa Blanca is Benidorm. Benidorm is now a large collection of hotels and apartments and boasts a truly excellent beach that stretches for as far as Benidorm itself does. The tall hotels of Benidorm are an awesome sight from the motorway but, if you are looking for entertainment and nightlife, then Benidorm is the place for you. The Costa Blanca will not disappoint you whether you are visiting for a holiday, buying a holiday home or thinking about moving to Spain permanently.
